Port Hedland
Annet van der Voort

I work as a kitchen utility either in the dining room or in the kitchen. We set the dining room up for service, we do the prep for chefs & grab 'n' go's for the miners if they want to take a hot meal for their crib lunch. Out the back, we do a grab and go, that’s a hot meal of lasagne and vegetables which we display in the crib, that’s for the miners, if they want a hot lunch. We break for lunch at 1.30pm, then we have an hour off, at 2.30pm we start putting the dishes through, doing the floors and washing the pans that need to be cleaned. It’s physical work.

After I finish, I read and watch TV. I chill out, and have something to eat, then, generally go to the gym after work because its 24 hours, you get a key to swipe in.

I’m not from Perth, all my family is back East, and I’ve been in WA for about two years.  I’ve been working here for just over a year. I used to work at Dome Cafe in South Perth until I saw this job on I earn double what I’d earn in Perth.
